The Knights of Columbus received their Charter on December 12, 1920, and enrolled sixty-seven charter members. Since 1936, this organization has had its own building, named for itself—the K of C Home—the oldest building in the downtown area of Haubstadt, built in 1866. It is located on the west side of Main Street, between Gibson and Haub Streets. In the 1898 photo below, you can see the original structure.
The principles of the Knights of Columbus are charity, unity, fraternalism, and patriotism. The Order of the Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal and social organization of men. The first home of the K of C was rented quarters in the upstairs of the Haubstadt State Bank building. In 1936 the council purchased the home pictured below, a two-story brick building. Over the years, however, many changes have been made to this building (which is still used today) and its immediate surroundings. The facade at the top was removed in 1960, adjacent buildings on the south side were torn down, other remodeling was done in early spring of 2002, and the front of the building was completely restructured in 2002.
