Looking for something new and different to read, look no further than this month’s staff picks! Each month we give a staff member a few prompts to pick some of their favorite books. October’s staff picks were chosen by our library clerk Melissa.
What has been your favorite book of 2024?
Favorite book so far this year: Never Lie by Freida McFadden
I decided to jump on the McFadden bandwagon after her books could hardly be kept on our shelves and read Never Lie. It did not disappoint! I knew her books normally have a surprise twist and thought I had figured it out quite early on but ended up being completely wrong! I feel she is a very easy to read author and love the surprises she brought in this book.
Never Lie by Frieda McFadden is available at Haubstadt or on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.
What is a junior book that you think everyone should read?
Junior book everyone should read: Any Baby-sitters Club book
Outside of what was required in school, I was not much of a reader as a kid. That changed when my parents subscribed me to a BSC book club. I received a few of their books in the mail each month and I couldn’t wait to read them. They are simply good books that depict preteen/teen lives in a real way with friendship always at the core. A new generation is currently enjoying them in their re-imagined graphic novel form.
The Baby-Sitters Club series by Ann M. Martin is available at Fort Branch and Haubstadt or on Libby as an e-book.
What upcoming release you are excited about?
Book you are looking forward to: Finlay Donovan Digs her own Grave by Elle Cosimano
I started reading the Finlay Donovan series this year and can’t wait for the next book to be released! This series is so wildly entertaining with great mysteries mixed in with hilarious situations that even though at times are over the top, seem completely relatable.
Finlay Donovan Digs her own Grave by Elle Cosimano will be available at Fort Branch and Haubstadt when it releases and will also be on Libby as both an e-book and audiobook.
