Looking for something new and different to read, look no further than this month’s staff picks! Each month we give a staff member a few prompts to pick some of their favorite books. November’s staff picks were chosen by our library clerk Melissa.
What has been your favorite book this year?
I have read a lot of great books this year so it is challenging to just pick one but I have to go with “The Family Game” by Catherine Steadman. I had not read or heard of this author before but came across it while shelving another book. The title was intriguing, the cover looked interesting and after reading the inside jacket I knew I had to read it. “A rich, eccentric family. A time-honored tradition. A lethal game of survival? One woman is about to find out if she has what it takes to join her husband’s family in this riveting must-read thriller.” It takes place throughout the Thanksgiving/Christmas season so it is a perfect time to check out this amazing hidden gem!
The Family Game by Catherine Steadman is available at Fort Branch Library and on Libby as an e-book.
What is a junior book that you think everyone should read?
“A Night at the Farm” by C+C Mini Factory. This is such a fun, delightful, rhyming story about a bedtime party farm animals have after the farmer goes to sleep. However, the real reason everyone should check it out is for the visuals! It was made by C+C Mini Factory who are mostly known as Instagrammers who “place miniatures in fanciful and otherworldly environments and photograph the outcome”. This book is just a visual delight for both adults and kids alike!
A Night at the Farm by C+C Mini Factory is available at Fort Branch and Haubstadt and on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.
What is a book you are looking forward to reading?
The third book in the “Perfect” series by Jeneva Rose. While there is not an actual release date if you’re a person who doesn’t feel like you’ve fully finished a book unless you read the acknowledgments like me, you know another one is coming! “Oh, wait, here’s a little secret: Sarah Morgan’s story isn’t over yet. XOXO Jeneva Rose”
The third book in the Perfect series by Jeneva Rose is only an idea at this point, but if it ever becomes an actual book, you will be able to find it at the library.
