Hidden Gems- July Staff Recommendations

Jul 10, 2024 | Hidden Gems

Looking for something new and different to read, look no further than this month’s staff picks! Each month we give a staff member a few prompts to pick some of their favorite books. July’s staff picks were chosen by our branch manager Allison.

What has been your favorite book of 2024?

Small Town Sins by Ken Jaworowski. This book centers on several characters in a small town in Pennsylvania and is told in a series of short stories that turn out to be very connected. It is mysterious and reminiscent of a thriller. A fresh new voice in fiction!

Small Town Sins by Ken Jaworowski is available in physical copy at both Fort Branch and Haubstadt, and also on Libby in audiobook and e-book forms.

What is a junior book that you think everyone should read?

A Rover’s Story by Jasmine Warga. Told from the point of view of a Mars Rover before and during its mission, this is a cute and endearing story about all things discovery, from within to the expanse of a dusty Mars. It makes for a great read-aloud as a family, STEM oriented, and good for readers who have enjoyed “The One and Only Ivan” and “The Wild Robot”.

A Rover’s Story by Jasmine Warga is available in physical copy at both Fort Branch and Haubstadt, and also on Libby in audiobook and e-book forms.

What upcoming release you are excited about?

Assassins Anonymous by Rob Hart. I am looking forward to this book that came out in June about an assassin who decides to retire and join a group for reformed killers, but finds himself under attack. He tries to find out who is after him, all while not killing anyone. I am looking forward to getting to this fun mystery that has gotten good reviews so far before the end of the year!

Assassins Anonymous by Rob Hart is available at Fort Branch Library and on Libby in audiobook and e-book forms.
