Looking for something new and different to read, look no further than this month’s staff picks! Each month we give a staff member a few prompts to pick some of their favorite books. July’s staff picks were chosen by our library clerk Kate.
What has been your favorite book this year?
My favorite book so far has been Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, with an honorable mention going to The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. These stories are such a treat to read, overflowing with humor, adventure, stakes, hope despite insurmountable odds, and unexpected connection when needed most. Both of them had me crying purely from the character bonds, especially Project Hail Mary.
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir is available at Fort Branch Library and on Libby as an ebook.
What is a nonfiction book you enjoyed recently?
A nonfiction book that I really enjoyed was The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins. It was surprisingly easy to read, but rich with applicable advice and insight. This book really emphasizes letting go of the need to control everything in life to create a more peaceful and accepting mindset, something I definitely need to remember.
The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins is available at Fort Branch Library and on Libby as an ebook or audiobook.
What is a book you are looking forward to reading?
A few books I’m really looking forward to reading belong to the Caraval series by Stephanie Garber, a YA fantasy collection with romance, mystery, and magic (which is exactly my cup of tea). The description sounds very intriguing, hitting all my favorite aspects of fantasy. Plus, I received it as a gift from family!
The Caraval series is available at Haubstadt Library and on Libby as an ebook or audiobook.
