Looking for something new and different to read, look no further than this month’s staff picks! Each month we give a staff member a few prompts to pick some of their favorite books. January’s staff picks were chosen by our teen clerk Isaac.
What has been your favorite book of 2024?
My favorite book of 2024 would have to be Frankenstein. It’s different from what everyone thinks of when they think of the story of Frankenstein. The old English might not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it, the characters, and the plot twists.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is available at Fort Branch and Haubstadt or on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.
What is a junior book that you think everyone should read?
A junior book I think everyone should read is called The Wishing Spell. The first in the series The Land of Stories, two kids travel through a book to reach a land of fantasy. I like this book, because it brings classic fairy tales into this world, and it is interesting to see the kids interact with the stories.
The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer is available at Fort Branch and Haubstadt or on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.
What upcoming release you are excited about?
A book I am looking forward to reading is Sunrise on the Reaping. This will be the 5th book in the Hunger Games series, and takes place years before the original trilogy. I am excited for this book, because the first 4 books in the series were really enjoyable reads, and I want to see more of what this world has to offer.
Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins will be available at Fort Branch and Haubstadt when it releases and will also be on Libby as both an e-book and audiobook.
