Looking for something new and different to read, look no further than this month’s staff picks! Each month we give a staff member a few prompts to pick some of their favorite books. July’s staff picks were chosen by our branch manager Allison.
What has been your favorite book this year?
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Noah Yuval Harari
-Harari does an amazing job at giving readers an overview of human history through both our evolution and societal changes. He is very educated and has a very clear writing style and philosophy of thinking. I have since read many of his other books this year.
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Noah Yuval Harari is on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.
What is a junior book that you think everyone should read?
Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse
I finally read this children’s classic this year and it is such a great lesson about how the Dust Bowl affected families through the eyes of a child who really struggles throughout the story. It is a quick and poignant read that I think everyone should read if they haven’t yet.
Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse is available at Fort Branch and Haubstadt and on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.
What is a book you are looking forward to reading?
A Marriage at Sea: A True Story of Love, Obsession, and Shipwreck by Sophie Elmhirst
I have been reading a lot more nonfiction over the past year and have picked up several books about journeys to the arctic or ships that have been capsized by whales, so this new release is one I am excited to get to.that is a true story of a couple who was stranded at sea and must fight their way back.
A Marriage at Sea: A True Story of Love, Obsession, and Shipwreck by Sophie Elmhirst is available on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.
