Hidden Gems- April Staff Recommendations

Apr 10, 2024 | Hidden Gems

Looking for something new and different to read, look no further than this month’s staff picks! Each month we give a staff member a few prompts to pick some of their favorite books. March’s staff picks were chosen by our library clerk Kate.

What has been your favorite book of 2023?

My favorite library book that I have read since the beginning of this year has been A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson. It was a quick, exhilarating read with characters that you can’t help but root for and an engrossing mystery to be solved. Just when you think everything is figured out, there’s another clue or twist that reshapes the entire case. I had a lot of fun trying to decipher who the true culprit was, and actually managed to guess correctly completely by accident!

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson is available as a physical copy at Fort Branch as well as on Libby in audiobook and e-book forms.

What is a junior’s book that you think everyone should read?

Within the Junior section, I highly recommend the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. His books were instrumental in sparking my love of reading and have been a favorite of mine since the beginning of elementary school. The adventure, world-building, and characters are immensely interesting and leave you on the edge of your seat, providing a modern twist on Greek mythology.

The Percy Jackson series of books by Rick Riordan is available in physical copies at Fort Branch and Haubstadt, and also on Libby in audiobook and e-book forms.

What upcoming release you are excited about?

Not sure if this counts, as it has been released recently (on April 2nd), but The Cemetery of Untold Stories by Julia Alvarez is definitely going on my list of books to read. It is supposed to be inventive and emotional, delving into the act of storytelling itself, which sounds right up my alley.

The Cemetery of Untold Stories by Julia Alverez is available on Libby in audiobook and e-book forms.
