Looking for something new and different to read, look no further than this month’s staff picks! Each month we give a staff member a few prompts to pick some of their favorite books. April’s staff picks were chosen by our teen clerk Isaac.
What has been your favorite book this year?
One of my favorite books of the past year has been Scythe, by Neal Shusterman. It’s the dystopian story of a world where scythes murder people to keep the population under control. It’s the first of a trilogy, and I couldn’t stop reading them.
Scythe by Neal Shusterman is available at Fort Branch Library and on Libby as an e-book.
What is a nonfiction book you enjoyed recently?
A nonfiction book I enjoyed recently was Everything You Need to Ace US History In One Big Fat Notebook. I have always enjoyed learning about U.S. history, and this book condenses it into a way that is easy for children to understand while still being informative.
Everything You Need to Ace US History In One Big Fat Notebook by Lily Rothman is available at Fort Branch Library.
What is a book you are looking forward to reading?
I am looking forward to reading Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. I read the original 5 Percy Jackson books a ton, and loved them. Years later, Rick Riordan came out with 2 new Percy Jackson books, and I haven’t had the chance to read them. If they’re anything like the original, they will have action and adventure mixed with Greek mythology.
The Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan is available at Fort Branch Library and Haubstadt Library and on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.
