Looking for something new and different to read, look no further than this month’s staff picks! Each month we give a staff member a few prompts to pick some of their favorite books. February’s staff picks were chosen by our library clerk Mikala.
What has been your favorite book this year?
The Last Dragon King by Leia Stone (book one in the four-part Kings of Avalier series). This series is a great one if you like consistent world-building throughout books, but where each story builds on the previous one and through another character’s point of view. I love reading fantasy novels, and this one had a unique writing style that I found easy to stay interested in as the story progressed.
The Last Dragon King by Leia Stone is available at Fort Branch Library.
What is a junior book that you think everyone should read?
The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. I read this book when I was in middle school, and absolutely loved it! It was my first taste of a dystopian genre, and even though I never finished the rest of the Book of Ember series, I still consider the first book one of my favorites from that time.
The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau is available at Fort Branch Library and on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.
What upcoming release you are excited about?
House of Blight by Maxym M. Martineau. After everything that happened with COVID, the magic of trading one person’s lifespan for health is intriguing.
House of Blight by Maxym M. Martineau is available on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.
