February Staff Recommendations

Feb 10, 2026 | Hidden Gems

Looking for something new and different to read, look no further than this month’s staff picks! Each month we give a staff member a few prompts to pick some of their favorite books. February’s staff picks were chosen by our youth coordinator Stephanie.

What has been your favorite book this year?

I really enjoyed reading Riley Sager’s Middle of the Night. In Middle of the Night, a man must contend with the long-ago disappearance of his childhood best friend—and the dark secrets lurking just beyond the safe confines of his picture-perfect neighborhood. This compelling story is told in alternating time frames and keeps you guessing not only what happened in the past, but what is happening in the present

Middle of the Night by Riley Sager  is available at Fort Branch and Haubstadt libraries and on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.

What is a junior book that you think everyone should read?

I believe everyone should read Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series starting with The Lightning Thief. This thrilling series combines Greek mythology and exciting adventure to create stories that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike! In The Lightning Thief Percy Jackson learns he is the child of Poseidon, the Greek god of the Sea. As he is learning that the Greek myths that he has read about are true, he is thrust into an adventure he could never have dreamed of. Zeus’s master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Percy and his new friends have just days to find and return Zeus’s stolen bolt and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus, all while contending with a plethora of monsters that are out to stop them.

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan is available at Fort Branch and Haubstadt libraries and on Libby as an e-book or audiobook.

What is a book you are looking forward to reading?

I am looking forward to reading What Happened That Night by Nicci French. Tyler Green, convicted of murdering his friend Leo at a student house party in 1993, has been released after almost three decades in prison. He has always protested his innocence. Tyler summons eight of his friends who were present on that fateful night. The reunion descends into violent chaos, and one friend will end the night with their throat slit in the upstairs bedroom…the same way that Leo’s was in 1993.When Detective Inspector Maud O’Connor gets called to investigate, she has her own doubts about Tyler’s guilt, despite what his old friends and the rest of the Metropolitan Police Force would like her to believe.

What Happened That Night by Nicci French  is available on Libby as an audiobook and will be at the library when it releases later this month.
