August Staff Recommendations

Aug 1, 2024 | Hidden Gems

Looking for something new and different to read, look no further than this month’s staff picks! Each month we give a staff member a few prompts to pick some of their favorite books. August’s staff picks were chosen by our library clerk Alec.

What has been your favorite book of 2024?

Breaking the Dark by Lisa Jewell. I have been a fan of all things Marvel for a long time, so it was really interesting to read a Marvel book that was an actual novel and not just a comic. If you liked the Jessica Jones tv show, you will like this book too.

Breaking the Dark by Lisa Jewell is available in physical copy at Fort Branch, and also on Libby in e-book form.

What is a junior book that you think everyone should read?

Holes by Louis Sachar. I read this book back when I was in middle school. It is a classic book now. I always liked how multiple eras of time all came together for one story. Plus the movie is pretty fun too.

Holes by Louis Sachar is available in physical copy at both Fort Branch and Haubstadt, and also on Libby in audiobook and e-book forms.

What upcoming release you are excited about?

The Secret History of Bigfoot by John O’Connor. I have always thought that bigfoot sightings and expeditions have been very entertaining. This book chronicles the history of Bigfoot, so it should be pretty fun to read all about it.

The Secret History of Bigfoot by John O’Connor is available at Fort Branch Library and on Libby in audiobook form.
