Library Board of Trustees
In accordance to the provisions of Indiana State Law IC 36-12, the board of trustees, as the authority of the Fort Branch-Johnson Township Public Library, assumes the power and responsibilities over the library.
The Fort Branch-Johnson Township Board of Trustees is made up of seven members. Three of the members are appointed by South Gibson School Corporation, two by the Gibson County Commissioners, and two by the Gibson County Council. A term is four years in length and a board member is allowed to serve up to four, four year terms. Board members serve without compensation and cannot be paid employees of the library, with the exception of the treasurer. The treasurer can be the paid bookkeeper of the library. The treasurer, who is not appointed but voted on by the board, does not serve terms and does not have any voting privileges or authority.
Vision Statement: “The Fort Branch-Johnson Township Public Library Board of Trustees envision that the library is an ever changing entity that is modern and advanced when it comes to the services that it provides to its patrons whether is educational, technical or recreational. The Board will support whatever measures to keep that environment.”
Community Service: Long gone is the quiet library with a strict librarian to enforce silence. Today, the Board supports the concept of this small library system being the community hub. The library is more than a dispenser of books—it also provides free services and materials to its patrons, such as movies, magazines, newspapers, databases, a computer lab, inter-library loan, reciprocal borrowing, programs for all ages and much more. The Board makes sure that there is a friendly, accommodating director and staff that provide the type of service that is worthy of the library’s population area.
