In accordance to the provisions of Indiana State Law IC 36-12, the board of trustees, as the authority of the Fort Branch-Johnson Township Public Library, assumes the power and responsibilities over the library. Seven members are appointed by the South Gibson School Corporation (3 appointments), the Gibson County Commissioners, (2 appointments), and the Gibson County Council (2 appointments). Board members serve without compensation and cannot be paid employees of the library, with the exception of the treasurer. The treasurer is the paid bookkeeper of the library. The treasurer, who is not appointed, does not serve terms and does not have any voting privileges or authority.
Our vision statement says, " The Fort Branch-Johnson Township Public Library Board of Trustees envision that the library is an ever changing entity that is modern and advanced when it comes to the services that it provides to its patrons whether is educational, technical or recreational. The board will support whatever measures to keep that environment."
Long gone is the quiet library with a mean librarian to enforce it. Today the board supports the concept of this small library system of being the local community center. The library is more than a dispenser of books. It also provides free of charge to its patrons movies, magazines, newspapers, databases, a computer lab, inter-library loan, reciprocal borrowing, programs for all ages and much more. The board makes sure that there is a friendly, accommodating director and staff that provides the type of service that is worthy of the library's population area.
We are celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Fort Branch Library the entire year of 2017. Every month at our special programs we are giving away $100 to a lucky attendee.
